Peace River to memorialize Darcy Haugan

A permanent memorial to Darcy Haugan will be built in Peace River. Haugan coached the North Peace Navigators hockey team from 2003 to 2015, and was killed in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash in northern Saskatchewan Friday night.

Town of Peace River council voted Monday to set up a meeting with the Navigators to look at options “to appropriately memorialize Darcy Haugan and his contributions to the community.”

“Darcy was a well-loved community member and an important part of junior hockey in this community,” the town says in a release.

Flags at municipal facilities in Peace River will remain lowered until a funeral for the 42 year old is held. A GoFundMe page secondary to the one for all of the crash victims has so far raised more than $52,000 for his family.
