The National Disc Golf Championships brought in roughly 600 people to the Peace Region over the weekend.

From Friday, July 24 to Sunday, July 26 disc-golfers from across the country came to Grande Prairie to participate in the 2026 National Disc Golf Championship.

Chair of the local organizing committee for the championship, Dylan Bressey says he heard from many of the players that this was the best nationals they have ever attended.

“We heard repetedley that this was the best nationals they have ever been too.”

“We had close to 600 people in town, either here to play disc golf or watch disc golf. They had high praise for our community, they couldn’t believe the quality of our disc golf courses. They were surprised by how amazing the restaurants, parks, and pools we had.”

Bressey mentioned that there was a couple dozen different award categories, but the most popular was the men’s and women’s Pro Open field Category, with roughly 150 people watching the final round on Sunday.

Thomas Gilbert took home the Men’s Open Field, while Sofia Donnecke won the Women’s Open Field.

For anyone who didn’t get to make it down, a professional film coverage of the event will be released in the coming weeks.
