Team Canada may be the underdog in the Olympic volleyball, but they’re more than keeping up. The 12th ranked squad bolstered by Grande Prairie-born spiker Gavin Schmitt beat number four Italy 3-1 Monday night to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
The Canadians are now in second place in pool A and will play Russia Wednesday. Schmitt had 25 points in the last preliminary round game.
