Peace Country Midget AAA female Storm host bittersweet provincials

Four of the five teams competing at the Midget AAA female hockey provincial championships at the Crosslink County Sportsplex this weekend won’t exist next year. The Peace Country Storm, along with Sherwood Park, the PAC Saints, and Rocky Mountain are being ousted from the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League.

The decision came from Hockey Alberta to reduce the pool to only six franchises, as a committee determined only 10 per cent of players should be at the midget triple-A level. Grande Prairie has instead been offered Elite League midget and bantam double-A teams.

They’ll be hosting provincials today through Sunday, with Calgary as the fifth team.
