Grande Prairie set to host the 2026 National Disc Golf Championship

Grande Prairie will be hosting the 2026 National Disc Golf Championship this summer.

Tournament director Dylan Bressey, says that the tournament will welcome nearly 450 athletes from across Canada, with a few attending from the U.S.

Bressey said that the city has hosted a tournament in the past, but not quite at the national level.

“Grande Prairie has had the opportunity to host provincials in the past, but were the first time Alberta has hosted nationals in decades. We’re excited to be hitting above our weight class and really highlighting our amazing courses here in Grande Prairie,” Bressey said.

When Grande Prairie hosted provincials back in 2021, Bressey was the Co-Director. He says these tournaments are great experiences for the community.

“In Grande Prairie we’ve got great experience to this community, not just putting on great disc golf events, but also putting on world-class sport tourism events.”

“When you have the opportunity to show this amazing community off to other people, it’s such a gift.”

The tournament is seeking for more sponsors before they tee-off this summer, information on the packages can be found on their website.

“This tournament is going to leave a legacy for Grande Prairie. We’re raising money to not just put on a great tournament, but to also upgrade our courses.”

The tournament is set to run from July 24, to the 26. In the meantime, Bressey encourages the community to try one of the three courses set up in the city.
