Potential redevelopment plan in the works for Hillside area

The Hillside area of the city could soon be redesigned to accommodate higher density housing in future developments. The plan would look at the area between 100th Avenue to 108th Avenue and 92nd Street to 98th Street.

A report into the Area Redevelopment Plan says that possible higher density housing in appropriate locations has many benefits like spurring social activity and could connect the neighbourhood with the City’s goal of strengthening the downtown core. The plan would also explore things like improvement of transit service and pedestrian amenities.

The process would be lead by a Steering Committee which would consist of residents, home builders, developers, a representative of the neighbourhood association, a representative of an adjacent neighbourhood, and representatives of City Administration. The group would meet on a regular basis.

Councillor Kevin MacLean says as the project moves forward, he would like to see all residents informed on the project which may include going door-to-door.
