Fire crews, aircraft deployed to tackle wildfire near Peace River

Fire crews are responding to an out-of-control wildfire in the Peace River region between the town of Peace River and Grimshaw.

According to Alberta Wildfire, the blaze is located approximately 20 kilometres southwest of the Town of Peace River and around seven kilometres southeast of Grimshaw heading towards the river.

Officials have confirmed the blaze was out of control as of 8:00 p.m. on April 23rd and was last estimated to be around 400 hectares in size.

Ground crews, aircraft, and heavy equipment have been deployed and worked to control the flames through the night.

Some residents near the blaze were evacuated as a result and the MyGrandePrairieNow.com newsroom has reached out to both the Town of Peace River and Alberta Wildfire for comment, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
