Grande Prairie City Council is exploring information, that could determine the future of how flavoured vapes are sold in Grande Prairie.
Mayor Jackie Clayton says that council wants to explore the opportunities in regulations on how flavoured vapes are targeted towards the youth.
“On a regular basis, council and I hear from parent’s who are extremely concerned about the health and safety for their children. In particular, when it comes to vapes,” Clayton said. “Flavoured vapes are marketed traditionally to children. There is not a lot of adults out there that are going to buy bubble-gum flavoured vape.”
Clayton mentioned that council is wanting to work with both the provincial and federal government about possible options. She added that council is also interested in working with public safety, and retailers that may sell the flavoured vapes.
“Working with the retailers, if the retailers know that there is a strong report to show that a lot of adults are actually buying grape flavoured vapes, then lets have those conversations,” Clayton said.
The Mayor says one of the solutions could be something like marketing towards parents, to help find the hints that their child may be using a vape.
Clayton says that currently council is looking to find information, to help them decide how to move forward.
