Shane Bourke named as new City Manager

The City of Grande Prairie has named Shane Bourke the new City Manager. Bourke previously worked for the city, having served in a variety of roles from 2017-2021. The last post he held in Grande Prairie before leaving for the CAO position of the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality was Corporate Services Director.

Bourke says he is looking forward to returning to Grande Prairie, and supporting the city with initiatives moving forward.

“I am excited to rejoin the strong team of City of Grande Prairie staff and support Council in accomplishing their ambitious agenda that includes major projects such as the Municipal Police Service, Health Care Attraction and Retention Strategy and Brand Strategy.”

“Grande Prairie is truly a one-of-a-kind city, and its growth and importance to the Alberta economy is a strong motivator for wanting to be part of the action. Built on an entrepreneurial foundation, with well-rounded amenities and a community spirit that can not be matched, I am eager to return and help shape Grande Prairie’s future.”

According to the city throughout his career, Bourke has worked in multiple levels of government including as Chief of Staff for ministries at the Government of Canada, and Director of Issues Management at the Office of the Premier of Alberta.

Mayor Jackie Clayton says council is looking forward to welcoming Bourke back to the city and working with him on achieving the items in the 2022 to 2025 strategic plan

“Shane brings not only an exceptional knowledge of the organization and accomplished background in other levels of government, but an aligned vision for the future of Council’s term.”

Bourke will officially start his CAO position on September 18. Until then the City’s Deputy CAO, Arlen Miller, will serve as Interim CAO following City Manager Bob Nicolay’s term ending on June 30. Nicolay has served as Interim CAO since February 2022 after Horacio Galanti resigned.
