$500K donation made to Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation

The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation has received a large donation from one of the original homesteaders of the city. A $500,000 donation will go to the Key to Care campaign in the late I.V. Macklin and his wife Matilda’s name. Their son Art says it is a fitting choice for the money.

“Our family is very supportive and pleased that the Hospital Foundation will be naming the auditorium with some sort of a plaque after I.V. Macklin and Matilda Gordon. It is in memory of our father I.V. Macklin. We are quite proud of that.”

The money is donated from Matilda and her most recent late-husband Elvin Munroe Gordon.

“My father was very interested in public welfare. He supported public education and public healthcare as well as cooperative economics where people benefited instead of the big private individuals.”

GPRH CEO Cindy Park explains that the large chunk of money will go into the legacy fund part of the campaign.

“The returns of that fund will purchase equipment at the hospital each and every year forever. It is the component of the campaign that isn’t just for today, it is for tomorrow.”

She adds that 100 per cent of the proceeds go to equipment.
