Northwestern Alberta unemployment rate drops

The unemployment rate in Alberta has risen, but despite plummeting oil prices, Grande Prairie – Athabasca has bucked the trend.

The provincial rate rose two percentage points last month to 4.7 per cent, while northwestern Alberta went down four.

It now sits at 3.8 per cent, while it was at 4.2 in November, and 3.9 last December.

Across the country, 4,300 net jobs were lost, holding the unemployment rate steady at 6.6 per cent.
