Largest ever capital announcement for the Grande Prairie Catholic School District

The Grande Prairie Catholic School District says it’s thrilled with Wednesday’s announcement by the provincial government.

They’re getting funding for a new 1,100 student junior/senior high school in the city’s north end, modernization for St. Kateri, and six modular classrooms.

St. Joe’s High School is bursting at the seams, and Board Chair Eldon Wyant says these additions will be a welcome relief.

“The modulars we’re looking at will be able to bridge us to the construction, because  the new school of course won’t come on for a little while yet. We don’t have an exact timeline yet, but it’s going to take a little while to build that new school.”

This is the largest ever capital announcement for the Catholic district, and Wyant shares thanks with local MLAs Everett McDonald and Wayne Drysdale.

A 600 student K-8 public school has also been announced for Royal Oaks, along with a K-8 school for Peace Wapiti School Division in Whispering Ridge.
