AHS showcasing mental health, addiction supports

Residents can learn about mental health and addiction services at an upcoming event. The Peace Health Advisory Council will be hosting an information session on September 25 to showcase what support programs are being offered in Grande Prairie.

Council Chairman Lucille Partington says experts will be there to talk to people and answer any questions they might have.

“We’re bringing together Alberta Health experts and a panel of people who have used mental health and addiction services in order to inform the public about what services are available and how they can seek better treatment when they have these needs in these areas.”

Because of the opioid crisis going on in the city right now, Partington says this session is important because it gives people options on where to find help.

“We really want to raise awareness of mental health and addictions because it’s a huge area of concern for people and it’s not like surgery where treatment is obvious. People need a lot of knowledge and personal experience to help them navigate the healthcare system.”

The council will use the session to get residents opinions on the health care system to see if there is anything that can be added or changed. The event will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at GPRC.
