RCMP advise against highway travel

Road conditions around Grande Prairie and the region continue to deteriorate and RCMP are asking drivers to stay home. Tips for drivers that do have to travel include completely clearing your vehicle of snow and ice, driving to the conditions, turning headlights on at all times and warm clothing. An roadside emergency kit is also recommended.

Environment Canada continued their snowfall warning for the area Friday morning and expanded the warning to cover much of the province. 25 centimeters of snow has already fallen in Grande Prairie this week and another 20 to 30 centimeters is expected before Saturday morning.

The windchill is also a factor. Breezy conditions mean most of the region is hovering around -35 and blowing snow if limiting visibility on those already dangerous roads.
