Man given 30 month sentence for drive-by shooting

A man who shot at a local business has been given a 30 month sentence. The incident on July 6, 2016 began with an altercation in the Richmond Industrial Park.

RCMP say the suspect left and came back driving in a vehicle, shooting a gun towards people in the area. He then led police in a chase across town and was eventually arrested in the Creekside area.

No one was hurt but the gun wasn’t found right away. Police dogs and search and rescue were brought in, but it ended up being found by two young children in their backyard.

32 year old Matthew James Bergeson plead guilty to assault with a weapon, careless use and storage of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm, breach condition of a recognizance Monday, earning him a 900 day sentence with credit for 387 served. He also got a one year driving prohibition for failing to stop a vehicle and evading an officer. His attempted murder charge was withdrawn, along with several other firearms offences.
