Local artist preparing for international art exhibit

A local artist and GPRC Alumni has been tapped to take part in an Italian art show later this year. Sarah Smith says the Florence Biennale will be the 67th show to include her art work.

The Florence Biennale is a contemporary art exhibit showcasing artists from around the world ever other year. So far more than 6000 artists have had their work displayed in the show which will celebrate it’s tenth edition in October.

Smith says it is an exciting opportunity for her, one that she hopes will help advance her career.

“I’m looking forward to actually being a part of something that is famous around the world. The artists that judge the show are leading artists in their field, they are the best in their given discipline.”

Smith has prepared her artwork to fit with the show’s theme, which she says is all about traces left behind.

“The piece is called Traces. Basically what I did is trace the process of food travelling to the store, to hunting it out and gathering it, and then bringing it to your home and consuming it.”

The Florence Bienalle features artwork in a multitude of forms including painting, sculpture, photography, installations, digital art, performance, and textile.
