Countryside North home damaged in Saturday morning fire

No one was injured in a fire that destroyed a Countryside North home early Saturday morning.

The house was fully ablaze by the time fire crews arrived shortly before 5 am. Everyone had been evacuated from the neighboring homes on 71st Avenue and 88th Street as well.

Grande Prairie Fire Department Platoon Chief Bart Johnson says the flames likely started near the rear of the home before spreading to the attic. Fire fighters brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes, but not before the roof collapsed and heat damage was done to neighboring houses.

Johnson says the fire caused approximately $200,000-250,000 worth of damage to the home. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
