UPDATE: One dead in Nampa train collision

UPDATE: The province now says Highway 2 has reopened in Nampa, but there may still be temporary closures as equipment is removed. Temporary stop signs have been put in place at the railway crossing until the signals have been repaired.

UPDATE: Peace Regional RCMP have confirmed that one man is dead following a collision between a CN Rail train and a Super B tractor trailer this morning in Nampa. The identity of the semi driver has not yet been identified as police are still notifying next of kin.

Emergency crews are dealing with the crash and derailment south of Peace River and a detour has been set up.

Global News is reporting that a CN Rail train collided with the semi along Highway 2, sending 12 to 13 empty tanker cars off the tracks around 1:20 this morning.

No dangerous goods were spilled in the derailment.

A witness to the crash told Global that the damage to the tractor trailer is considerable and that the truck is now unrecognizable.

No word yet from the RCMP on the severity of the crash or how long it will take before the highway can be re-opened.
