Cars for Christmas Lottery officials kicks off at Prairie Mall

The 2019 Swan City Rotary Club’s Cars for Christmas lottery has officially kicked off in Grande Prairie.

Now in its 20th year, potential winners can buy tickets for a shot at more than $451,000 worth of prizes including trucks, cars, trips, electronics, and cash.

Incoming Swan City Rotary Club President Nadine LaCroix says Cars for Christmas is one of two major fundraising efforts they have each year, and they have a big reach.

“Those fund the vast majority of projects we are able to contribute to locally and internationally. It’s pretty incredible the impact we make,” she says.

The proceeds from the event will go towards 12 local non-profit groups including the Bezanson School Booster Club, Grande Prairie Gymnastics, Spinal Cord Injury Alberta and Grande Prairie Rotary After Five Club.

LaCroix says any not for profit can apply to be the recipient of proceeds, but they have a process in place in how they choose year over year.

“People can apply to be partners for our lottery, we then go through and make those decisions about who we want to partner with based on the need because there are a lot of community groups who aren’t getting any other funding, and they rely on this community funding to run.”

Tickets for the main Cars for Christmas draw are 1 for $50, 3 for $100 and 8 for $200. They will be on sale until 11 p.m. on December 30th and can be purchased at the Prairie Mall kiosk, or online.
