Nominations needed for Alberta's Great Kid awards

The province is once again looking for nominations for their annual Great Kids Awards.

The awards are for children in four different age categories between 5 and 18, who are doing great things at home, school, and in their community.

Human Services Public Affairs Officer Laura Fedoriw says they are looking for nominations of kids who show remarkable generosity and compassion.

“So for example we had a 7 year old child who created a surprise package company. She left surprise gifts on the door steps of people who were facing hardship. In one instance, she made homemade cards for 3 children who had lost their mothers to breast cancer.”

The deadline to make a nomination is December 9.

“Basically, if people want to nominate someone for a Great Kid award, they can go to www.greatkids.alberta.ca and submit a nomination. We have a selection committee that then goes through all the nominations.”

The categories are divided up into categories, from 5 to 8 years old, from 9 to 12 years old, from 13 to 15 years old, and then from 16 to 18 years old.
