Carjacking suspect in custody

A man accused of stealing a vehicle from a teenager has been arrested. RCMP says he was taken into custody around 5 a.m. on December 19th, the day after surveillance photos were released to the public.

Police reported a young man had been getting something out of a parked vehicle in the area of 107 Avenue and 109 Street around 9 a.m. on December 16th. He was then approached by a strange man who allegedly showed him a weapon and told him to hand over the keys.

The suspect drove off in the Honda Civic and Police Dog Services wasn’t able to track him down. It is also believed that he had been involved in other violence.

32-year-old Awale Yusuf Abdi of Grande Prairie is facing 26 charges from the carjacking and other incidents. They include robbery, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime, and theft of motor vehicle.
