Suspect charged after explosion threat

Grande Prairie RCMP now say their response to a home in Ivy Lake Estates last week was due to a man threatening to blow it up. Police were called to the house on 104 Avenue near 88 Street the morning of July 18th for a report of a gas leak.

The gas was turned off, and the public nearby was asked to stay in their homes and avoid the area. Mounties say a man in the home had cut the gas line and was threatening to cause an explosion.

The 52 year old Grande Prairie resident was arrested at the scene without further incident. He has since been charged with mischief and obstruction.

The suspect remains in police custody and is set to appear in court on July 30th. Police say their investigation continues and ask anyone with information to contact the detachment or Crime Stoppers.
