Last day for city cannabis legalization survey Wednesday

Wednesday is the last day for Grande Prairie residents to weigh in on how the city should approach marijuana legalization. It’s expected legislation will be passed this summer, and the city has some decisions to make before then.

The Alberta government has already outlined some of how sales will be regulated, but municipalities can make some adjustments. Those include the buffer between retail stores and schools, and store hours.

A survey is up on the city’s website, looking for residents’ thoughts on those matters, as well as where they feel cannabis use is acceptable, and how it should be handled at festivals and events. The feedback will be used by city staff to propose how legal marijuana will be approached.
