If you find yourself calling the City after hours, you can now get help from an AI voice assistant as part of a a new pilot program.
The City of Grande Prairie launched the AccessGP pilot on Oct. 13. The assistant, named Casey, can answer common questions about recreation, transit, road work, snow clearing and facility hours.
If Casey can’t answer a question using City-approved information, it can pass the inquiry to AccessGP staff for follow-up during regular business hours.
The service is available on weekends, holidays and after 6 p.m. on weekdays. The City says regular daytime services, staffing and operating hours will not change.
Mayor Jackie Clayton said the pilot will help the City assess whether AI can provide useful support outside regular business hours.
The City will evaluate the service’s accuracy, reliability and residents’ experiences before deciding whether to use the technology in the future.
The AI assistant is not an emergency service. Anyone facing an emergency involving immediate danger should call 911. The pilot project will run until Dec. 31.
