Sam Roberts Band playing Tumbler Ridge Golf Course

Sam Roberts wants you to focus on his performance, and not his golf swing.

He and his band will be performing at the Tumbler Ridge Golf and Country Club in the B.C. south peace this Sunday.

Roberts say they like to try and get to a few smaller towns each year, and with less than 3,000 residents, Tumbler Ridge is just that.

“It’s funny… the further we get into our career, the more these places kind of open up to you in a way. The first few years you spend kind of playing in big cities, and we still do that obviously, but it’s nice to be able to get out into these parts of Canada we might not have an opportunity to see otherwise.”

He adds that crowds in more rural areas are often more appreciative of artists coming through town, than people in cities like Toronto or Montreal.

“It also sort of gives the show a special energy to it. I think people really throw themselves into the moment, and from a band’s perspective, that’s what you want to see.”

Depending on their travel plans (or how hungover they are) they like to check out the communities they visit, so you might spot the band at a local coffee shop.

Tickets run $58 and are available through the Crystal Centre box office.
