Snow removal bylaw amended

Concerns had been raised about snow removal on industrial and commercial property that prompted a change in the bylaw. Enforcement Services Manager Chris Manuel explains that there was a few problems with some businesses pushing snow loads onto adjacent public property.

With the new amendment, there are three steps to the process if you are caught pushing that snow to places you are not supposed to.

“In those instances we like to work with voluntary compliance. We educate the property owners of the bylaw and what the provisions are. Second step, the non-compliance is $100 and with the industrial and commercial businesses, it could be a $1000 fine if they continue to be non-compliant.”

He also added that this year has not been bad for snow melt but he noted that in years past that if the snow wasn’t removed properly it was flooding out neighbouring properties.
