Katelyn Porta is the Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools’ nominee for the Edwin Parr Teacher Award. The Alberta School Board Association honours six exceptional first year teachers with the award, nominated by school boards across the province.
Porta is a grade 9 science teacher at St. Joseph Catholic High and has spent the last seven years coaching High School volleyball and other GPRC club volleyball teams. Principal Roger Lauck says that Ms. Porta has gained respect from her students and shows the same respect to her students.
He adds that she gives off a sense of leadership. The awards will be announced and presented later this year.
