Grande Prairie MLA, Nolan Dyck says the University of Alberta’s and NWP’s joint NAMP program is starting strong.
Last fall, UofA and NWP’s NAMP program begun right here in Grande Prairie. MLA Nolan Dyck says he was pumped once the project became official.
“I’m super excited that we were able to land this last fall, this is a big deal for our area.”
“When I stepped in, I was very happy to be able to continue working on this project, and was able to land this project here in Grande Prairie.”
Dyck added that the NAMP program is a step in the right direction to help retain young people in and around the Peace Region.
“This is a huge, huge win for not just Grande Prairie, but northwestern and northern Alberta. I’m hoping this model is something we can replicate across Alberta, and continue working on.”
“When you train rural, we have seen about a 16 per cent retention in those areas, and so I’m looking forward to seeing some more hopeful retention. That’s where I think Grande Prairie shines. We’re a great community, where people can step-in and have those relationships and build those relationships.”
Dyck mentioned that based off what he has been shown, that the NAMP program has been a ‘huge success’ so far, and that they have had plenty of northwestern participants, attend.
The NAMP program can accommodate up to 30 new medical students per year.
