City Council has approved the 2026-2029 strategic plan

Grande Prairie city council has approved its 2026-2029 strategic plan.

The document sets direction for council decisions over the next four years and identifies four key priorities: economic opportunity and resilience, infrastructure and financial sustainability, purposeful leadership and governance and community empowerment and livability.

Mayor Jackie Clayton said following the municipal election, council has been able to come together and reflect on what matters most to those living in the community.

“Through discussion, planning and collaboration with Administration, this strategic plan was developed to guide Council’s work throughout this term,” Clayton said. “This plan reflects City Council’s commitment to thoughtful leadership, invest in our community and plan for the future in a complex and changing region so Grande Prairie can continue to play an essential role in the growth and success of northern Alberta.”

Clayton said the biggest shift from the previous plan is the focus on community empowerment and livability.

“I would say the most noticeable difference would be the community empowerment and liveability portion. It’s really about encouraging residents to come forward with ideas, and allowing them to be able to be a part of our community.”

Council approved the plan at its March 30 meeting.
