Grande Prairie man among eight arrested in ALERT drug trafficking investigation

A man from Grande Prairie was one of eight arrested in a drug operation in Fort McMurray.

In an ALERT investigation that started back in April of 2024, approximately $600,000 worth of drugs has been seized. Officials say that Project Fast focused on a Fort McMurray based drug trafficking network, that involved activity in Fort McMurray, Edmonton, and lower mainland in British Columbia.

During the investigation, ALERT says they searched five homes, and seized; 5,486 grams of cocaine, 1,036 grams of methamphetamine, $51,000 cash. two handguns, three carbine rifles, one shotgun, five prohibited extended round magazines, and various amounts of ammunition.

As a result, a 34 year-old from Grande Prairie, and seven others from Alberta and British Columbia, have been charged with offences related to drug trafficking.

“Organized crime is borderless and impacts every community. ALERT brings together a multitude of policing agencies and Project Fast was a coordinated dismantling of a drug dealing network that inflicted crime in several communities,” said Insp. Brad Lundeen, ALERT.

Officials say that the suspects have been released from custody and have various upcoming court dates in March.
