The Grande Prairie Composite High School has earned a Silver Certification for their leadership in sustainable and energy-efficient designs.
The certification was awarded by the Canada Green Building Council. Officials say that the certification was awarded for the schools commitment towards responsible construction practices, environmental stewardship, and creating facilities that support high‑quality learning.
Associate Superintendent for the Grande Prairie Public School Division, Ola Oladele says the achievement represents much more then just a plaque.
“Achieving LEED Silver is a testament to the forward-thinking design of this school. This isn’t just about a plaque on the wall, it’s about providing our students and staff with a healthy and inspiring space to teach and learn.”
Officials added that the soon-to-be expansion for the high school is now advancing to their next phase. The division has now announced that they have issued a request for proposal to engage with an architectural firm, to provide a design and consulting services for the project.
“We are excited to take this next important step. We look forward to working with a design team that shares our vision for a facility that supports student success and serves as a source of pride for the community,” Oladele said.
Staff say that the expansion will create space for roughly 450 more students to attend.
