The Grande Prairie Storm are leading the entire AJHL in total attendance, and attendance per game.
As of Feb. 6, the Storm have played 20 home games and are averaging an attendance of 1,411 people per game. The league consists of 12 different team’s, with only three seeing over 1,000 attendance per home game: the Lloydminster Bobcats at 1,191 and the Fort McMurray Oil Barons at 1,161.
According to the Storm’s Executive Director, Nicole Menzies the players feed off of the great home energy and that the players notice the difference when they hit the road.
“The players love it. It’s always sort of an adjustment especially for the guys who are coming out of the U-18 leagues, to come and play here and see how many fans show-up,” she said. “Like we’ve said time and time again, our fans are fans are no doubt the best in the league. There really is no kind of feeling like the energy in Bonnets on a busy home game.”
Menzies added that this wouldn’t be made possible without the communities support.
“Our number one goal is to be the Peace Country’s team, to be a team that everybody is proud of and looks forward to cheering for. ”
“I can’t over state how appreciative we are of the fans who show up.”
Over the 20 home games the team has seen a total attendance of 28,215.
