The Grande Prairie Storm will be taking on the Whitecourt Wolverines in round two of the AJHL playoffs.
The Storm swept the Lloydminster Bobcats in round one, and Head Coach Chris Schmidt said that home cooking definitely helped make the difference.
“There is a buzz in the community when it’s a day of a game. The fans have been great the last couple of years,” said Head Coach of the Storm Chris Schmidt.
Schmidt added that the break between series, with 10 days off, will also be beneficial, especially as they’re starting on the road.
“Thankfully we get a few days to rest and recoup because that was a tough series against Lloydminster. We’ll use the rest wisely and be ready for the next series.”
Starting goaltender for the team, Leland Gill started each one of the four games, putting up a .923 save per cent, and a 2.06 goals against average. Once the series is underway, Schmidt says he hopes Gill will continue playing the way he has.
Whitecourt finished first in the league by the end of the year, just three points ahead of Grande Prairie.
The second round will kick off with Game one in Whitecourt on Friday.
