The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation has been awarded a $1 million matching grant from the Government of Alberta’s Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) Large stream toward construction of Ken Sargent House.
Ken Sargent House will be a home-away-from-home designed to provide affordable, comfortable accommodation for patients and families who must travel to Grande Prairie for medical care.
“This investment from the Government of Alberta is transformational for our project and for the families we serve,” said Sean Doerkson, chief executive officer of the foundation. “The Ken Sargent House will ensure that people receiving medical care in our region have a safe, welcoming place to stay close to their loved ones. We are deeply grateful for this partnership and the province’s recognition of the impact this facility will have on northern Alberta.”
Nolan Dyck, member of the Legislative Assembly for Grande Prairie, said the project will help families facing medical challenges by keeping them close to care and to each other. “The Ken Sargent House is exactly the kind of project the Community Facility Enhancement Program was designed to support,” he said.
The $1 million grant is a matching contribution and builds momentum for the Ken Sargent House capital campaign. The foundation said community support, private donations and partnerships remain essential to completing the project.
Construction on Ken Sargent House is expected to be completed this year.
