The Peace region has new royalty in its midst. 17 year old Keesha Mah returned from the 2015 Miss Teen Canada Globe pageant in Toronto last month with the Young Canadian Achiever title. It came with a scholarship that she says she’s considering putting towards an education in either video game development or astrophysics.
“I like to live in the now, and worrying about money and what I need to do in order to get where I want to go kind of stresses me out a little bit, so winning the scholarship would let me be able to relax more and enjoy what I’m doing.”
While Mah placed in the top 10 in her category, she chose instead to pursue the scholarship. She says being in the pageant was about more than just looks.
“We did confidence training and we all sat in a big circle and said why we’re here and what we want to achieve. It was really nice to be able to hear other people’s stories and connect with them. I have so many new friends on social media and people I talk to now; it’s great!”
Mah is a grade 12 student at Beaverlodge Regional High. Now that she’s back home, she’ll be making appearances at events, speaking at a local school, and doing charity work for her chosen charity, the Canadian Mental Health Association.
