Big Brothers Big Sisters warn of potential phone scam

If you receive a phone call from someone requesting donations for Big Brothers Big Sisters, the organization is asking you to be wary of the caller. The not-for-profit has heard of at least two instances of local businesses being solicited for donations on their behalf.

However, Executive Director Amy Mohr says they typically do not solicit donations over the phone, and were not involved in either of these two incidents.

“We just would like to advise the public that if they do receive a phone call from someone indicating that they’re from Big Brothers Big Sisters, to please give our office a call to confirm that it’s a legitimate ask and they should not give any personal information or donate anything until they have confirmed it with our office.”

Mohr says they have filed a complaint with the RCMP. Anyone who is concerned they may have been duped is also advised to contact the local detachment.
