August and September saw a decrease in the majority of crimes in the city, with rural crime also declining.
According to the latest numbers released by the Grande Prairie RCMP, in August, theft from a motor vehicle in the city was nearly half what it was in 2022, with 28 incidents reported, with theft from a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property also seeing a drop in the city. In the city, the break-and-enter reports were from 41 incidents in 2022 to 43 in 2023.
Rural crime in August saw theft from motor vehicles and possession of stolen property saw a steep year-over-year decline, while motor vehicle thefts were up by 6 incidents and break and enter increased by two.
Across the board, in September, the city saw a decline in crime, with theft from a motor vehicle going from 55 incidents last year to 34 in 2023. Most rural crimes were also down in September, with possession of stolen property seeing a two-incident bump.
In August, the RCMP responded to 2,708 city incidents and 530 rural incidents. In September, there were 2,508 RCMP incidents in the city and 630 rural RCMP incidents.
