City to hold open house on storm drainage, urban forest area

An upcoming open house being put on by the City of Grande Prairie will look at both the Storm Drainage Master Plan and the Urban Forest Strategy.

The Storm Drainage Master Plan includes a technical study that a consulting company runs. The city does the survey once every five years for guidance on how the municipality prioritizes and determines the scope of upcoming storm-related capital projects.

“The feedback collected will help us prioritize and plan storm-related projects that enhance our community’s well-being for years to come,” explains Mayor Jackie Clayton.

The open house is also an opportunity for residents to share their thoughts or concerns on the city’s Grande Prairie Urban Forest Strategy. The goal of the strategy is to create a thriving green core in the city that includes not only green spaces but parks, streets, backyards and commercial areas.

Some topics that will be discussed include what people value most about Grande Prairie’s urban forest, areas within the city’s urban forest that can be improved, and any concerns or issues related to the strategy.

The open house will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18th, at the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion. Those unable to attend the in-person event are advised they can take part through two online surveys until October 22nd.
