City crews work towards finishing up construction season projects

As chillier weather begins sets in across the Grande Prairie region, city construction crews look to wrap up what’s left of their 2023 summer construction season.

According to the online City of Grande Prairie construction map, as of October 3rd, 2023, more than 50 jobs remain ongoing; with the majority non-road rehabilitation work.

Engineering Field Inspector Monty Haughian says crews have been working since the late spring, including major ticket items like work on 116 Avenue which have already been completed. He adds they’ve made great strides in upgrading the road network in the municipality.

“The city has really completed a lot of work this year with upgrading road surfaces across the city, I feel like it’s a successful year,” he says. “We had a good year with very little weather disruption.”

Haughian says in addition to Aquatera continuing work on upgrading their main water valves, the city itself has a handful of items left on the agenda before mother nature makes progress less likely.

“Aquatera will be repairing a valve closer to the college, actually at the intersection going into London Drugs, that will reduce northbound lanes to a single land,” he says.

“The city continues repaving roads in Pinnacle Ridge at this point, and we still have some minor work to wrap up before the asphalt plant basically closes for the year.”
