RCMP not recommending travel on Highway 40 near Grande Cache

Grande Cache RCMP is recommending people not use Highway 40 near the hamlet.

As of 2:42 p.m. Monday, the Municipal District of Greenview issued a road advisory for the stretch of highway. According to the municipality, north of the hamlet there have been mudslides directly onto the highway, as a result of the heavy rain and snow in the area.

511 Alberta is reporting as of 12:32 p.m. Monday traffic is down to one-lane alternating traffic 12 kilometres north of Grande Cache.

According to the advisory south of Grande Cache on Highway 40 is experiencing flooding, pooling water, along with slick and heavy snow in some areas.

As of 9:46 a.m. Monday, Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning, with “an additional 40 to 80 millimetres expected before rain tapers off Tuesday night” in some areas.
