Highway 43 is no longer accessible from the junction with Highway 733 near Bezanson to Highway 49 near Valleyview as of 1:38 p.m. Saturday due to wildfires.
According to 511 Alberta, drivers should detour north via Rycroft and Donnelly using Highway 2 and Highway 49.
Highway 43 was closed west of Valleyview Friday due to the wildfire on Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, and a detour was set up using Township Road 700. That has since been closed as the evacuation order for the area expands.
The evacuation zone for the Sturgeon Lake wildfire has expanded to any residents from Range Road 230 to Range Road 251, between Township Road 715 and Township Road 700, and anyone around Sturgeon Lake and in Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. Everyone in the area is being asked to evacuate to Valleyview, and register at the Memorial Hall at 4808 50 Street in Valleyview.
