Fire bans issued for city, County of Grande Prairie, MD of Greenview

A fire ban has been issued in the City of Grande Prairie, County of Grande Prairie, and MD of Greenview, effective immediately. The County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service has also prohibited the use of Off-Highway Vehicles in the entire county, along with the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Wembley.

In the city, the ban will prohibit all backyard fire pits, burn barrels, incinerators, campfires, and charcoal briquettes including meat smokers, consumer fireworks, exploding targets, turkey fryers, and tiki torches. No new open burning permits will be issued until dry, windy conditions improve.

Recreational activities such as the use of off-highway vehicles and CSA-approved or ULC-certified gas or propane barbeques for cooking are still permitted within the city limits. The use of propane and natural gas fire pits, catalytic infrared-style heaters, and electric or propane meat smokers are also allowed.

In the MD of Greenview, an OHV restriction is also in effect for areas outside the Grande Prairie Forest Area, which includes DeBolt and Valleyview.
