Wolves hire new men’s basketball coach

Grande Prairie Regional College has hired a new men’s basketball coach. Thomas Slifka will replace Jonathan Verhesen and longtime coach Chris Nichol, who stepped down earlier this year.

Slifka has been with the MacEwen University Griffins and University of Alberta Pandas since 2012, after working with Kent State University. He’s also been teaching courses in the kinesiology program while working on his Masters of Arts – Coaching Studies at U of A.

Slifka says the GPRC Wolves’ philosophy, players’ attitudes and community support played a big part in his decision.  Athletic Director Francois Fournier argues that Slifka’s dedication to coaching and understanding of community-based programs make him a great fit for the team.
