County employee honoured with Exemplary Service Medal

County of Grande Prairie Manager of Regional Enforcement Services Superintendent Stuart Rempel is no stranger to accolades. He received a ministerial commendation in 1993 for lifesaving actions during a High Prairie hotel fire, and saved an 81 year old woman from a farm fire a decade later.

Rempel has now been recognized with the prestigious Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal, acknowledging his outstanding contribution to public safety. He received his award Sunday at the 2015 Alberta Fire Chiefs Association Conference in Red Deer.

Rempel became a volunteer firefighter in Taber in 1983, and later moved to the County. He has served in enforcement services since 2004 and calls the medal an honour, saying he’s proud to have been a part of both the policing and fire service worlds.
