Spring Lake Ski Hill Association hosting first ever Ice Fishing Derby on Family Day weekend

Spring Lake Ski Hill Association is hosting a family-friendly Ice Fishing Derby event, as they hope to bring in financial and material donations for their organization as well.

Sheena Horseman is part of the planning committee for the event and is excited to see how the event unfolds.

“As of right now we are just gathering sponsors and trying to get the word out about the Ice Fishing Derby. This is the first time we have run an event like this and it will be out at Spring Lake by Hythe.”

Horseman says they’ve hosted similar events like this before in Spring Lake but this is the first one she’s been a part of.

“I’m an avid angler, and that’s something I love to do, and it’s very big in our family. It means a lot to be invited to work with everyone on the Ice Fishing Derby this year.”

The fish that people can catch in Spring Lake are Rainbow Trout and Brook Trout.

“There’s some good fishing in Spring Lake. It’s not a huge place to fish but it’s a lake that all of our families have fished in over the years,” she says.

As part of planning the event, they are looking for volunteers to help make it a success.

“We are definitely looking for some help at this point. Anyone interested in volunteering can reach out to me via email. We will be happy to take on anyone that is interested in helping us out and we appreciate people thinking of us,” she says.

The event runs on February 18th and February 19th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are free for children 12 and under, with adult entry. The biggest fish in length for each age group wins a prize. A fishing license is not required.

Note: Changes have been made to the original story and I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
