Grande Prairie sets daily rainfall record during winter storm

Monday’s winter storm was a record-setter, as it was the wettest January 17th in Grande Prairie’s recorded history.

According to Environment Canada, 7.1 millimetres of rain fell during the course of the day, beating out the previous record of 5.8 mm in 1977.

The city also came close to breaking the total precipitation record of 12.2 milimetres set in 1945, after 10.7 mm of total moisture hit the ground. Grande Prairie has seen nearly 39 millimetres of precipitation since New Year’s Day.
