Team Daylan Vavrek of the Sexsmith Curling Club is on its way to the Alberta Boston Pizza Cup Men’s District playdowns next weekend.
Sunday marked the finals of the Pomeroy Inn and Suites Peace Curling Tour in Sexsmith, and Vavrek took the SunLife Financial Division with a commanding 8-2 win.
The team wasn’t the only new champion crowned; in the EnCana Challenge Division, Team Courtney of Rossing of Grande Prairie won a close contest that came down to the last rock, and Layton Tremblay owned the Canwest Group Benefits Junior Division final.
Along with Team Vavrek, Team Kurt Balderston and Team Colin Griffith have also qualified for the Prairie Showdown cash spiel in GP in March.
