UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm warning ended for Grande Prairie area

UPDATE: The severe thunderstorm warning has ended because Environment Canada says storms have weakened or moved out of the area.

A severe thunderstorm could be making its way to the Grande Prairie area. Environment Canada says its meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail, and heavy rain.

As of 6:38 p.m. Wednesday it was 10 kilometres northwest of Sexsmith and moving to the southwest at 20 kilometres per hour.

“Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year,” Environment Canada notes. “Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
