The Town of Sexsmith needs a new fire hall.

Mayor Claude Lagace says their current building is old and beyond repair.

“The building that we’re in at the moment is about 30 years old, so with the expanding need in the area, as well as Sexsmith, we are looking to get more fire engines and proper equipment.”

The team of 25 volunteer firefighters responds to 180 to 200 calls a year, mostly in the County of Grande Prairie.

Lagace says they’re not looking for anything fancy; just something with three stalls for six pieces of equipment.

They’d like to see something happen in the next two years, and the County of Grande Prairie has formed a committee to start discussions with the town.

It’s still early, but rough estimates peg a new hall around $1 to $1.5 million.
