GPRC opens registration centre for High Level fire evacuees

With evacuees from High Level spread throughout northwestern Alberta, Grande Prairie Regional College has opened a registration point to make it easier for those who make their way to the city. The Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership is in charge of the registration centre, and suggests anyone coming from the fire area should make it a priority to get there as soon as they can.

“We can make accommodations available for them at that time, and we are ready and set for however long it lasts for to help out anyone who needs it,” says Information Officer Lesley Nielsen-Bjerke.

Nielsen-Bjerke adds while GPREP is appreciative of residents offering up additional support when it comes to food, water, and other staples, but at the current time, they’re not needed.

“We are asking that no donations be offered at this time because in the past that has created an issue in itself. We had to pull resources away from where they’re needed right now, so we are asking no donations be provided right now.”

The Town of Peace River has also opened up a registration centre at the Misery Mountain Ski Chalet. The provincial government said three people have registered at the GPRC location as of Tuesday.
